I think it's principally with Install Shield I had issues with, but there have been a few other filetypes that didn't work. I've read several times the UE has never come across files it can't open/extract, but thta's not my experience. Do you know why UE gives out these strange files instead of the actual program files? When I next come across it I'll post the exact name/ext to elucidate what is happening. One question though, when extracting certain *.exe's, I often get files with no extension, or it may be no file name, can't remember which, but the name or ext is rsrc or something similar. Am I to understand that 7zip aims to replace UE to some extent? Should I stick with UE or 7z? I have grown 'attached' to UE due to it's simpliciity and the fact it works.

Since all latest Windows releases have native zip support this would save me the need to download Portable7zip just to extract UE bin archive.Thanks for your detailed reply jaclaz.

PS: Could you host in your website the noinst pack as a ZIP archive rather than RAR? I ofter find the need to use some apps in public pcs where I have no admin privileges and don't have a proper archive program. Would nice to have this fixed even though I've never had any issues with the beta (but I wonder if the final version supports more stuff or has any bugfixes). I don't know if it's a 圆4 issue (running Win7 圆4 machine)? The last build of UE 1.6.1 that worked with this sort of setup was beta 1 (which is the one I'm currently using). My old pc died so I can't use it anymore (nor Lessmsierables).
Could you please test it and see if it's any better? and it's useless in public pcs where we have no rights). I tried jsmsi.dll coupled with a vb script in my old pc in the past (my new with Win7 blocks the script) and it seemed to work better than the current methods (I always avoid admin instalation method. Still find many msi files that aren't correctly extracted.
